Beci Orpin

One of my favourite Aussie designers at the moment Beci Orpin has recently released a new book called 'Home'. It is a meticulously put together collage of fun and happiness centered around the home and creating crafty projects to bring extra joy to your eating space, living space or sleeping space. Beci's work is just so vibrant, fun and whimsical it always puts me in a good mood and makes me want to escape back to my childhood where craft was an integral part of daily life. She is an inspiration to me because she is always creating new things and being super productive - I don't know how she gets so much done with two kids as well! Some of the pics I got from her book launch which was held at the wonderful Sydney emporium Koskela as well as The Design Files where she is also involved in The Design Files Open House. Go Beci, go!

Kaleidoscope

A repeat I created from one of the mask designs in the previous post. I placed the design onto a shot from Marie Claire to see how it would look on swimwear.

Mask

I have been playing with the idea of masks lately, and the way they can playfully hide your identity or express an alter-ego. These mask shapes, depict a highly patterned wilderness of my imagination.

Dion Horstmans

The Path - Dion Horstmans from Tony Prescott on Vimeo.

I somehow stumbled across this really nice short bio on Australian sculpture Dion Horstmans and fell in love with his abstract geometric steel prisms. I love the simple clean lines of the structures, particularly in his 'Night Rider' and 'Voltage' series. There is a solidity in the material yet they seem quite fluid and ever-changing as the shapes move and alter shape as you move around them. I also love how the shadows cast by the sculpture become an extension of the artwork and is also fluid and ever-changing as the light source changes and moves. He also seems like a dude, which I love. Check out more of The Path bios by Tony Prescott, they are really interesting and shot beautifully.

Vlisco Unfolded

The other week I was lucky enough to visit Eindhoven in The Netherlands to check out Dutch Design Week. An absolute highlight of the day was visiting the Vlisco Unfolded exhibition, which I found absolutely amazing! Vlisco is a Dutch textile company who create highly sought after 'African wax' also known as 'Batik' fabrics. Having most success in the African market, the company now plans to evolve into a global design house. Their prints are just out of this world - intricate hand drawn patterning, mid-20th Century style geometrics, and fantastic colours!!
